The Canon Powershot SX730 HS review

I purchased the Canon Powershot SX730 HS 3 days into December because I was having trouble filming on my iPhone 5s.

After a disastrous attempt at Vlogmas, I decided to give up and re-start my channel in the New Year. I looked at a suitable Vlogging camera, and I found out the most popular camera used by YouTubers was the Canon G7X. However, at just under £500, I found it a little expensive for a first time vlogger like myself.

I almost purchased the Canon SX720 until I noticed that the latest Canon with a flip screen was less expensive. I decided to buy the Canon Powershot SX730 HS on the Jessops website for £299. Canon had a deal on purchasing specific cameras and getting £30 cashback. So, I ended up paying £270, which is a great price.

I use this camera to film at home, and I take it everywhere I go because it’s much lighter to carry around and vlog with than my Pentax K50 SLR.  It’s also easy to use; however, I have used Canon cameras before. My Dad still has his old Canon, which uses films.

Canon Powershot SX730 HS – Filming/vlogging

One of the reasons why I chose this camera was because of the tilting screen. When filming and vlogging, I want to see whether I’m in focus and looking into the lens when talking. One of the main disadvantages is that the camera isn’t a touchscreen.

The Canon SX730 HS films in full HD movies 60 FPS and shares Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth so you can upload your favourite snaps straight to Instagram.

As a YouTuber who is also active on social media, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are extremely important.

One of the best features of this camera is its flip screen, which is ideal for vlogging and has a 40X zoom.

The only disadvantages with this camera are that you can’t shoot images in RAW only in JPEG. The camera also gets out of focus quickly, the battery doesn’t last that long, and you can’t connect an external microphone.
