Business essentials for start-ups in 2018

Business essential in the office

We are less than halfway through December” and question why I’m talking about business essentials in 2018”, let me point out that it’s easier to prepare for the New Year before it arrives.

Have you ever heard of the saying: “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail”?

It’s important that you have the right business essentials and equipment. There is lots of equipment to choose from including IT, mobile, printing and infrastructure equipment which is why it’s essential that you select the right tools for your business size and budget range.

To kick-start the New Year, here are some business essentials you should look to purchase for start-ups:

A business will struggle to survive without a computer or tablet or a laptop. You need computers to purchase things, research and input data into and even to pay for overheads including your employees.  The computer is also essential for business communication by email. Letters and faxes are now a thing of the past.

You will also need security software and systems to help you back up your business data.

There are lots of excellent online services that will save you money.

I never worked in an environment where you didn’t have to answer the phone so investing in good reliable Smartphone’s is key to saving you time and money. You can also reply to your emails on your Smartphone, and one of the extra bonuses for having this luxury is that you can answer important emails when you are out and about, so you never miss anything. However, there are also disadvantages to having access to business emails 24/7 as you may feel like you can never switch off from the office. This is why I would advise keeping your work phone and personal work phones separate.

Printers and a scanner

I don’t know about you, but I still love using paper. It’s easier for me to print things off to read and edit instead of trying to read it online. There are still some PDF files that you have to sign so the only way you can do this is by printing the page off, signing the form and then scanning it in. Wi-fi scanners are the best scanners to buy because they can save you time by scanning at a rate of 25 pages per minute.

The Scannershop currently has some brand name wireless slim scanners for sale at low prices.

One of the most important things you need will be computer access via broadband. For this, you should purchase Ethernet cabling, a router, and switches. You’ll also need a modem for connecting your network to the outside world, and with that modem, you’ll need an Internet service from a provider.
