Fantastic tech gear every student should own

September is looming which means it’s almost time for that back to school/college or Uni shopping trip to purchase some awesome tech gear. The summer holidays are about to come to an end and the new Autumn term is about to begin.

Here is some fantastic tech gear that every student should own to start the new term with a spring in their step:

Portable Mobile phone Chargers
When you are away from home, the last thing you want to do is run out of charge on your mobile when you are expecting a call from your loved ones. This is why the invention of portable power stations is perfect for those days when you are expecting a phone call, and you can’t charge your phone or iPad straight away. Portable chargers are ideal for iPhones,iPads or phones that you can’t buy a spare battery for. You can order portable chargers from Amazon from £12.99.

Headphones or Airpods

Whether you are living in student halls, accommodation or living at home, headphones are ideal for listening to music without disturbing others around you. I personally like headphones for listening to music and online webinars because it feels like a more personal experience.

If you prefer lighter earphones to headphones or if you like to run while listening to music you can purchase a pair of Apple headphones on Amazon for £9.99 or Apple Airpods for £160.

If you have an NUS card or a Unidays card you can receive a 10% discount off Beats, Airpods, BeatsX wireless Earphones and other Apple accessories.

Wireless Bluetooth Speakers

If you are going off to university, wireless Bluetooth speakers have many advantages. There are no wires to worry about, and they are light and portable which means you can listen to them outside when studying or chatting with friends on those warm Autumn days. If you are at college or school, wireless Bluetooth speakers are perfect for the bedroom because they take up less space than a Hi-fi and you don’t have to place them near a plug socket as they run on batteries.

Here are some wireless Bluetooth speakers that have been recently recommended by TechRadar.

  • UE Boom 2
  • Fugoo Style
  • JBL Charge 3
  • Bose SoundLink Mini II
  • UE Wonderboom
  • Philips EverPlay BT7900
  • B&O Beoplay P2
  • Marshall Kilburn
  • Bose SoundLink Color II
  • JBL Flip 4

A television

There are many reasons why you should own a television. Even if you don’t have a TV license and you don’t watch tv having a wide screen TV has lots of pros. Firstly, you can hook up your laptop and watch YouTube Videos or browse anything online. If you can’t afford speakers and want to listen to music, you can listen to online music stations and podcasts.

I own a 32 inch Panasonic television and you can purchase one of these for just over £200 from Amazon, or you can buy smaller and cheaper TVs from £149.

You can even plug in your laptop and open up your work and view it on a larger screen, all you need is a HDMI cable which you can pick up on Amazon for as little as £3.99.

Laptop or a MacBook

When it comes to tech gear, every student should own a laptop or MacBook because whether we like it or hate it, computers are the future and it’s important that we have an idea of how they work. Even If your chosen profession doesn’t require the use of technology, there’s no reason why everyone can’t learn the basics.  You can pick up a cheap laptop from the Cheap Laptop Company for under £100, or if you want something a little more upmarket, you can purchase a Macbook from Apple and get up to 15% off with your NUS card.
